Grintalo

HNK u Šibeniku presents Grintalo, a comedy adapted by Marijana Nola from Carlo Goldoni's Sior Todero Brontolon and directed by Zoran Mužić.

In this adaptation, Goldoni's story is relocated to Šibenik at the end of the 19th century. At its centre is Miovil Kinkela, a grumbling, miserly and authoritarian merchant accustomed to controlling his family, his servants and the lives of everyone around him. His son Paško quietly endures his father's behaviour, but his daughter-in-law Markulina refuses to accept Kinkela's rule.

Determined and resourceful, Markulina joins forces with the other strong female characters to challenge his harshness and his attempts to decide the future of those closest to him. The resulting comedy brings together generational conflict, family relationships and the struggle for personal freedom, populated by vivid characters and shaped by the distinctive spirit of Dalmatia.

Grintalo completes HNK u Šibeniku's trilogy of character comedies following Škrtičina and Laživac. At its heart are human weaknesses and relationships that remain remarkably recognisable regardless of the period in which the story takes place.
